Minkowski Functionals and Minkowski Tensors in cosmology

Abstract:

We review the recent application of the Minkowski Functionals (MF) and Minkowski Tensors (MT) in the study of large-scale structures in the universe (LSS) and cosmology. The MF have been used in cosmology to quantify the geometry and topology of LSS. We demonstrate how they can be used to constrain the expansion history of the universe, and present recent results of applications to observational data. The MT have been introduced to quantify the morphology and isotropy of LSS or cosmic microwave background fluctuations. We present the Gaussian expectations on the MT, and also some results of application to simulated CMB and LSS data.
